ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

“We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening our own”—Ben Sweetland
The Torchbearers Foundation is committed to the educational advancement of Caribbean youth. In an effort to provide our young people with opportunities to realize their full potential and become future Torchbearers, the foundation provides financial assistance based on family needs, academic excellence and community involvement. Scholarships are funded through fundraising events, corporate sponsorship and the generous support of numerous individuals and groups.

Scholarships are open to Caribbean nationals as well as persons born outside of the Caribbean to Caribbean parents. All applicants must be residents of the Caribbean or South Florida. Torchbearers Foundation will award a minimum of 5 grants of $1000.00 per year, with the vision of increasing this number yearly.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Awardees are announced in July of each year.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

Please visit our Events page for more details.

“PASS THE TORCH”—The Experience

A volunteering component, Pass the Torch, is incorporated into the Torchbearers scholarship. Each awardee is required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service during his/her reward year. We also encourage awardees to share their story by submitting an essay on their volunteering project and how it impacted their lives and those they helped. Pass the Torch is grounded in the belief that in receiving you must give back. We want to lay the foundation of philanthropy starting with our young people, so that they can become future Torchbearers. Our Pass the Torch stories will be uploaded on our site to keep you informed on the impact we are having on the communities. Please stay tune!
